Without question, your attendants provide plenty of support for both you and your spouse to be leading up to and during your wedding. It’s only natural to want to show your appreciation to them in the form of a gift. Gifts are certainly a nice way to do this, but do yourself a favor and don’t get all wrapped up in the industry hype and blow your budget!

Wedding vendors are all too aware of the trend of couples spending lavishly on gifts and have seized on this opportunity to add in another profit center for themselves. Don’t be surprised to get the guilt trip laid on both you and your spouse to be in order to get you to spend more than you really want to. Remember the old saying – “It’s not the gift, it’s the thought that goes into it.”

You sure don’t have to buy into all the hype and overspend. As with any gift, you should take the time to consider what you know about the person and buy according to what you think they would appreciate. But by all means, don’t bust your budget just because of all the hype surrounding bridal party gifts!

If you end up deciding to purchase separate gifts for each person in your party – as opposed to buying accessories or a day at the spa – do yourself a favor and try to spend the same on each person.

Here are some ideas that are generally very well received:

1. Gift Baskets

These are always well received because of the thought that goes into them. And you can save plenty if you make them yourself. You can tie them into a particular theme if you’d like – bath and beauty, coffee, sports, movie based, etc. You can pick up the wrapping paper and baskets at a local discount or dollar store to help you keep your costs in check.

If you choose to go with a metal gift basket and you have it in your budget, consider getting the basket engraved. It’ll run or less per basket to have this done. Jewelry stores can handle this for you.

2. Scrapbooks

This is a very well received gift. It commemorates your friendship and your wedding combined. Be sure to have plenty of photographs of just you and the attendant you make the scrapbook for. Be sure to include a wedding program from your wedding day, along with other paper mementos from the big day. You can grab and inexpensive scrapbook from your local crafts or discount store. Dollar stores will often carry photo albums that can double as a scrapbook as well. Done right, this can be a very elegant gift that your attendants will cherish.

3. Conduct A Special Outing

If you have the time, why not treat all of your attendants to a night out on the town with you – one on one? Or, maybe take each one out to lunch, to a sporting event or a round of golf.

4. Gift Cards

This is an idea that’s best suited for the groomsmen. It’s kind of viewed as impersonal when it comes to the ladies, but what guy isn’t happy getting a gift card for his local bookstore, sporting goods store, or restaurant. This is where it is important to think about what your groomsmen’s likes and dislikes are. A gift card will really be appreciated – especially if it’s to a place they are really in to.

If you are having a tough time coming up with something for your attendants, you’ll want to check out surprise.com. This site scours the Internet for gifts and then breaks them down into categories according to gender, interests, personality traits and overall life situations. It also provides prices and links to all the sites that sell the various items.

When putting your gift list together, don’t forget your flower girl and ring bearer. These yungun’s are deserving of a gift was well. Age appropriate gifts in this situation include personalized T-shirts, candy baskets or other goodies. Gift cards may also be appropriate.
